I have been playing with a new Triquint ULNA device (TQP3M9036). It
Shows a lot of promise. It is like a MAR or MSA device in that it is
50ohm in and out. and has a claimed NF about .4db nf ( their numbers).
I have built several pramps to test them and have gotten even better
than they claim and they cover 50-1296 with ease and NF is .4ish or
below. The S11 and S22 are both great and the OIP3 is +35db also
...very nice device. It has great promise as a good terrestrial LNA.
Preamps are foolproof to build and would cost under $50 if all the best
quality parts are used.

Hi all,
I’m ready on 6cm with the same dish I’m using on 3cm.
Despite the strong local 5 GHz WiFi noise, had a nice 579/569 first QSO with this setup today with HB9Q, thank you Dan !
Setup is a 3.7m dish and 60W at CP feeder.
I can be QRV on 6cm or 3cm most of the days, skeds and tests are very welcome, as usual.

qrv 70cm, 33cm, 23cm, 13cm, 9cm, 6cm and 3cm.
This weekend I operated 6cm using just 16 Watts to a 1.9m PF dish with an
SM6FHZ septum feed (kindly loaned to me by G3LTF) On RX, a single stage
0.9dB LNA based on a "Franco" LNB board. See RSGB RadCom "GHz Bands" column
July 2014 for details.
I had 7.5dB sun noise and 0,25dB Moon noise.
On CW I worked OK1KIR, HB9Q and DF3RU. "Gotaways" on CW were OK1CA, OF2DG,
ES5PC, PY2BS all identified calling CQ. I need more power!
On JT4F I worked HB9Q, OK1KIR, OK1CA UA3PTW, OZ1LPR and PY2BS.
A good start to the 6cm project at G4BAO. Watch this space, more power
planned!

Greetings
I do think I have blown a device (or two) in the Larcan amplifier due to my high reflected (450w). My Larcan power output has dropped from 1500w to 1000w. I got my VSWR into a safer region yesterday and even managed some 222 echoes even thought the sun was only 5 degrees away from the moon. While aimed at the moon, the sun noise was 3 dB higher than my termination noise! Today the sun is even closer so its probably best to wait until August moon cycle to try for some QSOs.
I got my VSWR down to 1.7:1 by increasing spacing between DE and R on my loop feed. I found a source of MRF151G amazingly, here in town. So I plan to try to fix the Larcan today, and possibly play around with the feed to see if I can improve further.

Okay Mike. Sorry to hear about the amp and the results with Marshall.
Yes very rapid faraday today for sure. Made for some good 6 meter conditions though so not all bad.
The echoes look good and I hope to hear them if you get it all working.
Good luck.

Hi Grant
I tried with Marshall today. I copied him "O" but he could not hear me. Attached a screen shot of my own echo.
I believe we must have had very rapid Faraday today, because QSB took me from what you see in the photo down to nothing in seconds.
The bad news is I think I may have blown a device in the amp. My power output dropped from solid 1500w down to 1300w. I should have paid closer attention to VSWR. I had 400 watts reflected. I need to correct this before I do any more. I'll try to work on it first thing in the morning.

Hi Mike:
Got home from my work trip this afternoon and tried listening for echoes.
Surprisingly I heard them on and off as Mr Faraday played with them. Usually only hear them at night and when the sun is quiet.
Let me know if you will be around tomorrow to try a QSO. Mark has a few issues to work out before we try.
Sun is getting close to the moon so might be challenging.

Ray,
Hi hi, better stick with CW. Maybe SSB? That would be cool. As I recall, our previous QSO on 222 was fairly easy. Should be much better this time if my improvements are as good as I expect.

Gentlemen
I have not tried my new amplifier on the antenna yet, but I am ready as soon as tomorrow. I would like to work you guys this week if possible, during this high declination period. For long range planning and for Al, maybe we should plan a 222 event for 11-14 August time frame?
I have been redoing all my RF cables at the antenna tower so I have not been QRV, but I will be finished with this project later today. I hope to try for some echoes tomorrow. The amp puts out a full 1500w on the bench. I'm anxious to fire this thing up on the antenna. Also made some RX improvements and a new high power T/R relay.

Hi all,
I am pleased to help. I have a 222 feed, but I am not regularly active on 222. I will need at least a couple of weeks to get things together. If you set a date with enough advanced notice, I'll try to be QRV.

It seems as if the 222 gear still works and is up and running. Let me know when and if you want to try a sked.
Mark we may also have some aurora tonight so perhaps we will get a rare aurora on 222 tonight.
In any event as I am out of town during the week perhaps we will be able to arrange something over the next couple of weekends.

5.5 m dish and 900w on 222. Dish is roughly the equivalent of two long yagis but I tend to hear quite well with reasonalbe elevation to get rid of the ground QRM.

Sorry you won't be at CSVHF..
Great on 222, I have my Larcan on the bench right now, and ready to set bias and see what it will do. I have spent most of my time lately on building rack slides so I can mount the Larcan in my HPA rack. But that is finally ready. This project has been in the back seat for a few years and finally getting to it. Just mounted the fans on it. So not much left to do. I do need to reconfigure the feed with higher power relay.
Also, K2UYH indicated he would like to try 222, and K5QE is ready too!
But the moon is getting low fast, so it will probably have to be "or two" or maybe three weeks. I can probably be ready tomorrow.

Hello all.
I am in the middle of refurbishing my 70cms antenna and putting up a
tropo system for 23cms. My BVO 70 yagi has a boom support tube very
similar to those used on Tonna antennas and I need a clamp. They are the
type with a U bolt with a flat bottom and there is a piece of U channel
to clamp the 20mm square section used for the boom support. Does anyone
have such a clamp in the junk box? The bolt was very rusted and sheared
when I slackened it.

Good afternoon Friends,
>From 104 F hot day in California. About 40C.
Has anyone gone through the necessary licensing steps to do a 2 way EME
23cm from
German EME ground station, while control op and amateur call sign from
California?
What is necessary re Licensing, Control operator, etc? Can DL/W6 call
sign be used?
Also, Same question for 70cm Amateur operation of LEO Cubesat; from
Germany Ground station
Controlled from California. Is licensing of any sort needed for a ground
station in Germany, for Cubesat data downloads, if it is
Receive only? For a USA Call sign Cubesat? For other country Cubesat?
What is the name of German Radio Licensing Authority to contact, if
necessary?

Hi all
Peter, DL6CGC and I plan in 2018 a holiday trip through northern France. As
in years before, I will have my 2m-EME/p rig with me and I plan, to
activate abt. 2 Locators.
To have the best results I may ask the community for the most wanted
squares. We will go through IN77, 78,
88, 98 and JN09.
What do you think will be best?
